BPD establishes 24/7 tip line for rape suspect. Anyone with information pls call 888-223-0033
Baltimore police have established a 24-hour tip line to collect public leads in a series of recent rapes. The tip line, at 888-223-0033, is staffed by officers familiar with the cases, Anthony Guglielmi, the Police Department's chief spokesman, said Friday. Guglielmi said the community has already stepped forth with helpful information.
The tip line was established after nine reported sexual assaults since Oct. 20. Some of those attacks, including the most recent on Wednesday in the 2700 block of Brendan Ave., occurred near bus stops, primarily in East Baltimore. Police are investigating whether they are linked. Investigators have released a sketch of a possible suspect in two of the bus stop attacks, in which the assailant used a shard of glass as a weapon. Another string of sexual assaults, occurring during the same time span, seem to be related to home break-ins, according to police.

CITY COUNCIL PASSES NEW PROPERTY CRIME LEGISLATION
Electronic Reporting from Pawn and Second-hand Shops will Help Police
to Recover Stolen Property and Locate Criminal Suspects
BALTIMORELast night, the Baltimore City Council passed significant legislation to address property crime in the Baltimore region. The measure, sponsored by City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, requires pawnshops and secondhand dealers to report transactions electronically to the Baltimore City Police Department.
"Improving public safety is a top priority and the City Council is committed to finding innovative ways to reduce crime in Baltimore," Rawlings-Blake said. "This new ordinance will help our Police detectives solve property crimes and make our neighborhoods safer and stronger."
Similar efforts in the Washington, DC metropolitan area have helped police recover millions of dollars in stolen property and arrest criminal suspects. The transaction data collected from pawnshops and secondhand dealers will be integrated into a regional database shared by Police Departments in jurisdictions in the Baltimore and Washington regions. Baltimores new ordinance also requires merchants to submit electronic photos of property when placed on hold by Police Detectives.
During the last legislative session in Annapolis, local jurisdictions tried unsuccessfully to get similar legislation passed. Immediately after the state effort failed, Council President Rawlings-Blake introduced stronger local legislation to the City Council.
It is my sincere hope that this bill will become a model for statewide legislation for next session, Rawlings-Blake said. It is critical that law enforcement in every jurisdiction have immediate, electronic access to pawn and second hand transaction data so that police can investigate property crimes more effectively.
The Baltimore City Ordinance, which was endorsed by the Police Department, is expected to be signed by Mayor Sheila Dixon and will go in effect 30 days thereafter.

Baltimore Examiner • June 25, 2008
Throughout the first couple months of 2008, the Southeastern District
has experienced a rash of "larceny from automobile" incidents. As a result
of this spike, all district personnel have been put on alert, and informed
to place an emphasis on larceny from automobile enforcement tactics.
On 10 February 2008, Officers Timothy Haefner and Michael Martin received
a call for a larceny from auto in progress. Recognizing the urgency of this
call, Officers Haefner and Martin quickly responded and were able to
apprehend the suspect while still in the victim's car. Additionally, these
officers put in the extra effort to ensure that all investigative and patrol
communication were conducted.
As a result of their efforts, I commend both officers on a job well
done, and thank them for their continued commitment to the citizens of
Baltimore.

How To Report Unwanted Fliers

what you can do when a business leaves advertising fliers in your neighborhood:
